I have been privileged, as the Principal for the past eleven years, to have witnessed and been part of an ongoing and exciting reform of teaching and learning at Jinibara, a Queensland Independent Public School.
All teachers and teacher aides at our school develop a clear and continuous improvement agenda for every child, based on improved learning outcomes (literacy, numeracy and science as a particular focus) and continuing to know each and every student as a learner.
Teachers and teacher aides work tirelessly to understand and know our children through collecting and analysing learning data and then they adjust curriculum, pedagogy and assessment to suit the individual needs of the students. Teachers and students together set goals for learning and review these goals regularly with the aim of empowering our learners. To do this, teachers work long and hard hours outside of the classroom in the planning and preparation stages of the teaching and learning processes that occur in lessons.
Teachers and teacher aides at Jinibara also understand the importance of explicit teaching, continuous monitoring and high expectations for student achievement. Our staff are continuing to develop deep knowledge of their craft and most importantly are continuously open to new learning as this informs their professional practice. Throughout the year, teachers, students and parents come together in Parent-Teacher-Student Reporting to share student progress and consider new goals for learning. This ensures the partnership between home and school remains strong and united. This is the bedrock of our student’s success.
I am proud to be a part of the Jinibara Independent Public School staff where students have been placed at the heart of all decisions about teaching and learning.
On behalf of the school community I would like thank our teachers and aides, for their ongoing hard work and commitment to our student’s learning. I invite you to join us as we continue our learning journey in 2019 and beyond.
