Middle classes

It has been a very busy start to the school year for year three students here at Jinibara. We have all been trying our best in the extremely hot weather that we have had so far in Term 1. In English we have been learning to write persuasive paragraphs and we are now reading a narrative called Matty Forever, before we write our own narratives.
In Mathematics we are continuing to work with numbers up to 1 000, improve our knowledge and fluency of number facts involving addition and subtraction, beginning work on the concepts of multiplication and division and having fun conducting investigations involving chance.
In Science we have been investigating the characteristics of living and non-living things. We are all looking forward to the Ocean Life Education presentation in week 8 in the hall. Below are pictures of some of the animals we are hoping to learn more about in the presentation.

In grade four we have been very busy and working extremely hard in different areas of the curriculum. In English we enjoyed reading a humorous novel written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake ‘The Twits’. After reading and analysing the language features and techniques we had to create an imaginative new chapter for the book.
In Science we researched and explored how natural processes and human activity causes weathering and erosion on the Earth's surface.

In Maths we are continuing to develop and refine our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division fact strategies to further build on fluency and accuracy in our Mental Maths. We really enjoyed investigating “How much is 10 000. Here are some examples:
Lastly we are still learning about personal strategies to build resilience through our bounce back program.
