Seussical August Update

24/08/2015
Friday 21 August 2015

Hi SEUSSICAL families

Enthusiasm for the big performance still seems high at rehearsals (….with, at times, an overflowing of energy requiring reminders to be attentive). We hope this enthusiasm carries over to promote regular home practice on the other days of the week. Our performers would best benefit from out-loud-singing-while-moving practice using the songs that have been recently updated on the USB stick. (…please apologise in advance to your neighbours on our behalf).

There are just four rehearsal sessions left in this term, then the 6th week of next term is PERFORMANCE WEEK! Everyone has come a long way in the eleven weeks we have been underway, but there is still a long way to go in bringing it all together. For the 5 weeks of term 4 leading up to performance week, rehearsals are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The rehearsal groups are much more selective over the first 4 weeks, and it is REALLY IMPORTANT that everyone is at their allotted rehearsal(s).

KEEP US INFORMED (…especially with prior notice of necessary absence from rehearsal) on

PROPS & SCENERY – Parents / Adults Working Bee Saturday 29th August 10:00
We are looking to have a working bee to get a lot of scenery hemmed and painted, along with some heavy lifting (portable staging from a shed to the hall) and some carpentry done – things that are needed to bring the show alive. This will involve painting with acrylic paint (panels of calico), some prop manufacturing, needle and thread work, (hand sewing to lift the black curtain, as well as some machine sewing) and some creative cutting and joining of cardboard.

Things that will be needed: paint brushes (particularly the larger ones), a 3+ metre ladder, stud finder, darning needles, a sewing machine (and operator) to hem along 2.4m wide calico, sheets of corrugated cardboard (large cardboard boxes, etc.) and Stanley Knives,

As mentioned in the newsletter, this is work that needs to be done by adults. We understand that your children may need to accompany you when you come, but be sure to bring something for them to play (the Senior Oval is next to the hall and provides good line-of-site for supervision from the side of the hall).

Please email with your intention to come and to let us know any of the gear you can bring. Send the email to:

Thank you
