Representatives from developer CSR, members of Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors’ Ecological Services Unit, horticulturalists from H2O Catchment Services (Pine Rivers) and our local Councillor Bob Millar, attended our school. The students were engaged in learning about local wildlife protection and how to plant and care for native vegetation. Each student in attendance received a pair of gardening gloves and was able to plant one of the 1000 native plants that now form a ‘green zone’ along the school’s back fence, adjacent to the senior oval.

.
Over the coming weeks these plants will be watered regularly in order see their successful establishment and the creation of a buffer between the school and the impending development of the CSR quarry.
.
In 2010, CSR will also be inviting our students to contribute to decorative artwork throughout the development, such as mosaics, totems, bollards and imprints, nesting boxes and imprints in various pavements.
.
The opportunity for our school to forge a strong and mutually beneficial relationship with Council, CSR developers and ‘eco-groups’ for the benefit of school and community is greatly valued. It is of course vital that we maximise opportunities to embed our school community within the local community and its environment.
